I planned this trip to Sicily spontaneously while changing jobs. I flew to the east of the island, to the city of Catania.

At first I was not particularly impressed, as I found the city rather dirty. Soon however I realized that the architecture and culture are very interesting. Catania was actually supposed to be less of a destination in itself and more of a base for exploring the surroundings.

Near the city there are many interesting places, for example Taormina. Taormina is a beautiful place with breathtaking views, picturesque alleys, and excellent food. You can also comfortably get there by train if you have not rented a car.

The best experience of my entire trip was visiting the volcano Mount Etna. The nature there was truly impressive, and I was very lucky: at night I could even see the volcano active from a safe distance.
